The Pyramids
at Giza
were built by the Pharaohs of the
Old Kingdom; Cheops (Khufu), Chephren
(Khafre) and
Mycerinus (Menkaure). Chephren
(Khafre) is
shown here.
The Capital of Egypt at that time was at Memphis which is
close to Giza and modern Cairo.
Other Pharaohs were Pepi
I and Unas. Most pharaohs of this period built pyramids,
here is a list of the
pharaohs, the location and ancient names of those pyramids.
Trade was important, but Egypt kept herself isolated and
grew in wealth and sophistication.
There were powerful city states within Egypt during this
time and down through the ages.
