At the beginning of the1895-96 Season in Egypt, Amelia and Emerson are looking forward to excavating again at Dashur and Amelia is scheming about how to identify the "Master Criminal" who is now more than a figment of her imagination.

He is real and has efficiently organized the illegal antiquities trade.  At the end of last season he stole the antique communion vessels from the Coptic Church at the village near the Dashour site while convincingly posing as the priest.

But before they can leave Shepheard's they stumble into another murder.

Abdullah is not surprised for "every year, another body" is his wry observation. But this year seems at bit more hectic than usual.  First Ramses is kidnapped from the top of the Great Pyramid, only to be rescued by a drug-addicted Englishman who has gone native.

Amelia and Emerson need someone to look after Ramses, so Amelia sees an opportunity to add him to their entourage and reform him at the same time.

Then an Englishwoman stumbles out of the sands onto their doorstep.. is this the start of another pair of moonstruck young lovers... it is.. and on it goes, never a dull moment.

But the pace quickens further when Amelia is caught up by her own scheming and is abducted by The Master Criminal, who turns out to be quite attractive and attracted to Amelia.

The classic sword fight and rescue ensue.  But this is not the last we will see of the Master Criminal.
