| The Amelia Peabody Series is set in
Egypt and England during the last of the 19th century and the first
part of the 20th. This volume, Designed by Dennis Forbes of
KMT and edited by Elizabeth Peters and Kristen Whitbread, uses
contemporary etchings, photos and accounts to provide further
detail and background to the period.
The volume includes excerpts from
Emerson's diaries about the events in 1885 that resulted in his
marriage to Amelia.
The articles range from the expected
to the unexpected, for example:
A Splendid Overview of Egyptology:
Napoleon to World War I by Dennis Forbes
and
A Skillful Overview of Victorian
Servants & Their Duties by Margareta Knauff
There is a Section devoted to
"People, Places and Things" which includes an short
introduction to all the characters in the "Journals".
And there is a further reading list.
For those who want to know more, or
who just want to keep all the details of the series straight, this
is a must-have volume.
It's publication may signal the end
of the series, but I, for one, sincerely hope that SHE has more
stories to tell about the Emersons. We will just have to wait
and see.
